The following photographs are related to the first air raid on Japan, carried out on 18 April 1942 by Army Air Forces lieutenant colonel James Doolittle and a squadron of sixteen B-25 bombers that took off from an Navy aircraft carrier in the Pacific. Some of the photographs, digitized from the National Archives and Records Administration branch in College Park, Maryland, are followed by a description.
